Loopback adapter August 5, 2014

I find quite often I need to test some TCP/UDP developments on my PC offline, but sometimes have a hard time. The problem is that an unplugged cable disables the Ethernet adapter and therefore any IP settings are taken over by the auto ip link-local addresses…

I’ve found the easiest way to get around this is to plug in a cable, but while travelling this has been a bit difficult, so the second best choice is the Microsoft Loopback Adapter. You can add it in by adding a new device in device manager and choosing [Network Adapters]/[Microsoft]/[Microsoft KM-TEST Loopback Adapter] (or just see some instructions at http://4sysops.com/archives/how-to-install-loopback-adapter-in-windows-8/.
